Located on South Richmond street near Portobello bridge in Dublin 2, Shabnam Foods is a small but amply packed Indian store offering a wide and inexpensive range of foods and spices. It’s a one-stop shop for anyone wanting to build up a decent Indian larder, and it’s great for fruit and vegetables.
Meat and frozen fish are also available, but I have yet to purchase these. I’m drawn in by the bags of glorious spices and nuts, which are cheaper than the average supermarket and come in bigger quantities that last for ages. With a variety of canned goods and condiments also on offer, you can’t help but feel inspired.
Later this week, I’ll post about how to build up your Indian storecupboard – as well as another tasty recipe to get you going.

I was in Shabnam Foods for the first time today on the hunt for mustard seeds, which they had in abundance and at a great price. Aside from the fantastic array of spices and seeds the shop assistant seem to have the ability to read my mind. Pretty nifty!

I’ve been a fan of Shabnam Foods for years. There are a lot of local Indian (or ethnic) shops that are offer great value, particularly if you are buying spices.
