Offers from the coffee chains

Posted by: jean in: Bargains & Special Offers | Lunchtime

coffee-steamWe covered fast food offers here last week,  but for those of you who like a bit more dignity with your lunchtime (you’re kidding yourselves!) there are also these offers currently available from the chain cafes:

  • Insomnia: Any sandwich + any tea/coffee €5
  • Cafe Sol: Value sandwich + hot tea/coffee €4.50
  • Cafe Sol: Pastry + tea/coffee €3.50
  • Brewbaker (Nassau St and South Frederick St): Soup and sandwich (takeaway only) €5
  • Munchies: €2.20 for a latte (not that special, but they used to charge over €3)

Big thanks to our pal Maria Crispy for sending these in.

Updated: Thanks to reader Paddy Curran for this one:

  • Cafe Java at Grand Canal Sq: They offer a take away special: sandwich (two fillings plus salad) and any hot beverage for only €3.95. The same will cost €8.60 if you eat in.

the Insomnia offer is quite good as it includes large coffees (grande?) and rolls which are nearly €5 by themselves.

having said that, coffee is grossly overpriced in general, so its about time the coffee shops started giving something back.

If one of the chains started doing cappuccinos\lattes for €1.50 they’d make a killing - its one of the first things people cut back on when money is tight.

I also noticed the other day that Dunnes Stores in the Ilac Centre are offering all coffees for €1 after 3pm in their Reflection Cafe. You’d really need to work very close to there to make this worth your while, but if you do, it might come in handy.

Cafe Sol is doing some simple sandwiches for EU1.50. I had the plain g mayonnaise on brown bread today and it was pretty good. Shop sandwiches are usually better as simple as possible as the lettuce and tomato don’t stand up to sitting around for a few hours.

The regular tomato & basil soup was EU1.50 and was shockingly good. Tasted home-made. Contained little bits of celery and carrot. And didn’t have that horrible sweetness that many commercial soups have.

EU3.00 for excellent soup and a decent sandwich. I’ll be back at those prices, Cafe Sol!
