Sponsored Post: Win Lunch in Tiesan Cafe

Posted by: jean in: Competitions | Recipes | Restaurants | Sponsored Posts

Our friends at Tiesan Cafe in Dublin’s Portobello have sent us a recipe and have also sponsored this giveaway – you could win lunch for two at their gorgeous new cafe on Harrington St.

Tiesan’s Babaghannouj

  • aubergine2 medium aubergines, about 500g, cut into cubes
  • 125ml extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 4 tablespoons tahini paste
  • 3-4 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 bunch of parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt flakes
  • plain yoghurt, to taste

Serves 4-6: makes 500g

Toss the cubed aubergine in half the oil until coated. Arrange in a single layer in a shallow roasting tin or baking sheet and cook in a preheated oven at 200ºC (400ºF) Gas 6 for 20-25 minutes or remaining oil, lemon juice, tahini paste, garlic, parsley and sea salt into a food processor. Blend for about 36-45 seconds to give a coarse but creamy paste. Taste and adjust the seasoning.

Serve warm, cool or chilled with an optional swirl of yoghurt or olive oil on top. Accompany with hot flatbreads, crisp fresh salad leaves or with roast lamb, as a vegetable or a sauce

oooh great prize and love the recipe .. yum yum

I like deals in cafes of a sambo with a drink or coffee .. perhaps also similar breakfasty deals too such as a piece of fruit a yoghurt and a juice/coffee ?

another offer I remember from the states is the choice to have a half soup half sambo combi which i think can work out well as sometimes you wouldn’t want a full of both ..

Have never heard of this cafe .. will be checking it out.

I’ve seen Tiesan cafe from my bus – been meaning to check it out.

I’d really like to see good value espresso. Somewhere in the region of €1 – €1.50. Doubles to be no more than €2. It’s amazing how much some places charge for an espresso.

How about a fax service to offices. You give a sheet where people can tick off what they want for lunch, the office faxes through the completed sheet around 11:00 and then someone from the office (taking turns obviously) comes to collect the order.

There is nothing more annoying than wasting half your lunchbreak queuing for a sandwich. If its raining, it means only one person gets wet.

i love being able to get something hearty like a stew without having to have bread – most places are all about the sandwiches, paninis, rolls. i’m usually looking for something a bit more than a sandwich and less than a full dinner when i eat in cafes.

I work for myself so my schedule is flexible. I would find offers at off peak times during the week quite attractive.

A free regular tea or coffee after a full lunch would be a lovely addition!

I’m amazed that no-one in Ireland does free refills on coffee and tea, as is done in the US. Would be cheap and might inspire a bit of customer loyalty…

I think breakfast offers are really good such as tea/coffee and a scone/pastry for a set price. Also i think more places should have a special sandwich on different days of the week that is cheaper than the normal ones. I also agree with half soup half sambo combination as mentioned above.

I’d like to see small desserts available for €1-€2. So instead of paying €5 for a large slice of cake, you can have a small square, or taster and pay less.

Salad bars are always good – as long as the salads are good quality!

I’d love to see 2 for 1 offers & also more low carb options. Free tea/coffees with a purchase would also entice me in.

It would be great if some cafes adopted a bring your own bottle policy where they could charge say €1 or €2 corkage for wine, as well as providing their own beverages!

Free fresh tap water available easily. I hate when food is left uncovered with flies etc buzzing. It’s not safe. I think they should do more quirky things, like honey on the comb and quality sides. Salad dressings, optional and on the side.

More baked potatos as an alternative to chips.

Free cup of tea/coffee for me as well. Also, meal offers would be great: soup/sambo combo’s, that sort of thing.

I think a ‘dish of the day for a fiver’ would be a big hit in these times, not just with myself. It could be a stew (choices endless there) or something like above Babaghannouj recipe or a couscous recipe or even pasta. It would be economical for the cafe, they could make one huge bowl of it and I would see it being served in a decent sized bowl with a slice of crusty bread. It would be a daytime thing but if they had evening hours it could be ‘dish of the day for a tenner’.

I’d love to have a decent lunch for 5eur, sandwich coffee etc. that would keep me going till i got home but not break the bank. Sounds like this restarant aren’t far off that.

I also would love to see more “no bread” ideas for lunch e.g. takeaway stews, chilli con carne etc. Alternatively like a previous poster mentioned, the american idea of half soup half sandwich is always a winner. In summer side salad and half a sandwich would work well.

Best of luck guys, I’ll definitely check you out next time I’m near by.
