Review: Coin de Mare, Moore St.

coin-de-mire-image‘Coin de Mire’ is a busy pint-sized Mauritian eatery located in Moore Street Mall. With such a rudimentary set-up, it’s not ideal if you’re looking for a sophisticated restaurant atmosphere. What is appealing is the authentic restaurant quality dishes and mammoth portions at very reasonable prices.

This simple kitchen-counter is run by Mauritians and has a noticeable Mauritian clientele which is always a good sign. The food is fusion style, mixing European and African influences with an Asian accent. You can choose from set dishes or enjoy a mixed platter and sample a variety of styles. Halal friendly too.

I ordered a mixed platter of King fish curry and Coin de Mire special for only €7.50. The portions were huge and the spicy curry and delicate flavours of the rice special were very satisfying. Overall I enjoyed the experience, although in the less than congenial surroundings I did feel like I was waiting for a flight.
