As everyone else partied the Bank Holiday weekend away, I stayed at home with the flu, Britain’s Got Talent, and a generous dollop of self-pity.
On Saturday, I dragged myself out to Marks and Spencer hoping to alleviate some of my misery. They always have a really extensive range of delicious special offers and bargains and I have to stop myself from going overboard. With their discounts and special offers, some items – such as their fresh juices – can work out cheaper than other supermarkets.
The specials included:
- 2 for €6.50 (€4.19 each) on tubs of cakes – Chocolate Mini Rolls, Mini Carrot Cakes, Flapjacks, Caramel Cracklepops…
- Buy one get one half-price on the M&S Grill Range, which includes Hot and Spicy Blackened Steaks, Ginger Lime and Coriander Chicken Breasts, and Lamb Shishkebabs)
- 3 for 2 on M&S Count on Us range
- Buy one Prawn Crackers, get one free
- M&S Still Lemonade – 2 for €4.50 or €2.99 each
I spent a total of €54.89 there but, with discounts, my bill came to only €45.47 – a saving of €9.42.
The prawn crackers are instantly addictive, while the lemonade is just perfect. I also love the M&S Honeycomb in Acacia Honey at €4.99, and I eat it like a rabid Pooh bear breaking into a sweet shop. The little luxuries were a wee bit more afforable for me as I wasn’t spending any money on going out. They didn’t cure me but they certainly made me feel better. Do you have a favourite M&S luxury?

God help me but their count on us trifles are heaven sent. Its like Reeses’ cups, they shouldn’t work but they just do. I hate jelly, hate cold custard and think diet foods are the emporers’ new clothes but these tubs of bliss have me beating a path to M&S in Cork at least once a fortnight.

The 3 deli items for 6.50 at the moment – I went in twice over the weekend… quiche, smoked salmon, falafel, marinated olives, prawn cocktail, morrocan butternut squash parcels, etc. etc. etc. etc.
