In a clear challenge to Aldi’s Super6, Lidl have slashed the price on six fruit and veg items between now and Tuesday May 12, including:

• Loose aubergines - half price - reduced from €1.19 to 59c
• Broccoli - 33% cheaper - reduced from €1.49 to 99c
• Blueberries - 33% cheaper - reduced from €2.99 to €1.99

Also at Lidl, specials from Thursday May 6 until Sunday May 10 are focused on the kitchen, and include:

• 12 piece Stainless Steel cookware set - €64.99
• 24 cm Thermopoint Aluminium Pan - €19.99
• Dipping dish set - €9.99

Then, on Monday, there’s a new set of specials:

• Kids Wendy House - €99.99
• Ladies Bikini - €5.99
• Men’s Aqua Shoes (surprisingly useful, I’ve found!) - €5.99
