Product Review: McConnell’s Smoked Mackerel

Smoked Mackerel Salad

Smoked Mackerel Salad

I met many outstanding food producers at the Bloom event last weekend. One of these was McConnell’s Gourmet Smoked Foods, a small business run by the Sweeney family, producing smoked fish and poultry.

Their smoked mackerel, priced at just €3 for two big chunky fillets, was superb. Full of flavour without being overbearing, while also moist and fresh, this is a great value way of filling up on those all essential Omega-3 fatty acids.

The Sweeneys gave me some to take home with me. I chopped it up and served it in a simple salad with a basil vinegarette (courtesy of another great food producer I’ll be writing about in coming weeks). You can buy McConnell’s smoked mackerel, salmon, trout, or chicken online or in SuperValu Churchtown, Silver Spoon Castleknock, Lilliput Store in Arbour Hill, or Liston’s on Camden St. Or, pop into their premises: Unit 2, Whitestown Industrial Estate, Tallaght.
