Product Review: Olvi Oils

Posted by: peter in: Product Reviews

olive-medium-765591I’m still horsing my way through the bag full of goodies I picked up at the Bloom Festival last month, and I’ve just come to the end of my jars of Olvi oils.

What a gem. Father and daughter team Sam and Miriam have been in business for well over a decade, and it’s easy to see why. Their oils and vinegars are nothing short of spectacular. For the very reasonable price of €12, I picked up a little tower of small jars - Basil Pesto, Basil Vinegarette, Mango Vinegarette, Red Pepper Relish, Black Olive Tapenade, Sundried Tomato Pesto.

They’re all quite versatile: the mango vinegarette went into a delicious salad, the Red Pepper Relish found its home in Snack Box’s creation of Trout Fillets in a Tomato and Red Pepper Sauce, the Sundried Tomato Pesto had an arranged marriage with pasta, and the Black Olive Tapenade had things dipped in before shacking up with some toast. The little tower would make a great gift, if you can stop yourself eating it all.

Olvi oils are available in, amongst other places, all Avoca branches, Liston’s of Camden St., Main St Florist in Howth, Nolans in Clontarf, Select food stores in Dalkey, Urru in Bandon Co. Cork, Greenacres in Wexford. They’re also available in several sandwich bars. I don’t think Olvi have a website but you can contact them on 014906728.
