Takeaway Special at Saba To Go

sabatogo_circleOur own Maria Crispy sustains herself on Saba To Go, and has written positively about this Thai takeout before.

It bears repeating. Saba To Go have recently launched a great midweek special offer – two starters and two mains for €25. Like most specials, the menu is restricted; there’s a choice of four starters and three mains. Snackbox and I chowed our way through this deal a few weeks ago.

For starters, we went for the Saba Crispy Chicken Wings, and they were as crispy and delicious as we had hoped for. Our other starter, the Vegetable Parcels, were a bit of an anomaly. They were a little bit like samosas, full of quite dry spices, and not exactly what you’d expect from a Thai takeaway. I wouldn’t be rushing out to order them again.

The rest of the meal all went according to plan, as I was sufficiently spiced out by the four-starred spicy Beef Phad Krapow, with birds eye chillis, garlic, string beans, peppers, babycorn, tomatoes & holy basil. Inexplicably, Snack Box chose the Sweet and Sour Chicken – a bizarre dish that usually leaves me feeling shaky. This version, however, was very good: it actually had flavours beyond salt and sugar. My 18-year-old nephew Daniel, who was staying with me for a few days, had a delicious Green Prawn Curry that I’d highly recommend.

The special menu could really benefit from the addition of a curry, even if it required a €1 or €2 supplement (then again, it’s a good opportunity to broaden your Thai horizons beyond  curry). Still, vegetable parcels aside, this is a good deal. The portions are substantial so there was plenty left, and the food is, as Maria Crispy says, restaurant-quality good. You can add a bottle of house wine for an extra €7.50. Try this deal (Monday-Thursday only) and let us know what you think.
