The Mad Hatter, Castledermot

Posted by: peter in: Restaurants | Reviews

Mad Hatter CafeSleepy, oh so sleepy, falling asleep at the wheel. On the way down to Carlow last weekend, I pulled in at the lovely Mad Hatter Cafe in Castledermot for a coffee.

It’s really the only decent place worth stopping in on the Dublin-Kilkenny road. They’ve a lovely selection of fresh cakes, all home-made on the premises, and they make a lovely cup of coffee. I had a chocolate biscuit cake and a beautiful latte for just over €5.

I’d eaten about an hour beforehand, so didn’t want anything savoury, but I thought the food display - salads and sandwich fillings - looked really appetising. I’ll definitely pop back in for lunch sometime.

We eat there on a regular basis and can’t sing its praises high enough. It’s well worth pulling in for or detouring off the new motorway as all the food is so fresh and tasty…

It also makes a nice change from greezy spoon trucker restuarants which is all you can find if you are the road regularly!!!
