New menu at Eddie Rocket’s

eddie_rockets_logoEddie Rocket’s have been loudly trumpeting their new menu to us radio addicts. Despite the likes of the Real Gourmet Burger chain going out of business, the whole gourmet burger concept, along with the fierce recession, has inevitably put some pressure on Eddie’s.

Some of their prices can’t have helped either. The radio ads tell us it’s cheaper than before, but my eyebrows are raised at the insanely overpriced onion rings: still €5.50, and still utterly inexcusable. The chips have fallen in price from €3.90 t0 €3.50, but this is still a big fat rip-off, especially when I’m pretty sure they’re frozen.

That said, I do quite like Eddie’s: it’s consistent and always satisfying. The chicken burger, in particular, is a reliable treat. The new menu brings more variety to the table, with everything from a very peculiar “grilled pineapple burger” to apple, walnut and blue cheese salads and margerita meatballs. Most attractive of all, however, are the new variety baskets at €6.50 and €10.

What do you think of Eddie Rocket’s, and do you like the new menu?

  1. I admit the food is tasty but so overpriced for a fancy burger and chips!

You can pay up to nearly 30 euro for a meal, which is really the same price you would pay for 2 good early bird menus.

Unless they start putting their prices down, i wont be going back

  2. I’m not sure if this is done outside Cork, but the Tescos on Paul St here often have Eddie Rockets 2-for-1 burger vouchers on the back of the receipts. If a pair of us are feeling hungry we pop into Tescos and scout around for dropped receipts near the automated checkouts and get two burgers for about e7. Bargain! I’m sure they try to make money from the vouchers on the chips and drinks you’re bound to buy, but resist the extras and you’ve a delicious cheap burger. Sorted!

  3. Gourmet burger bar just below Mc Curtain street has an offer Monday to Friday. burger plus fries 7.50. also you get a choice of lamb burger, beef burger with Dubliner cheese, veg option or a chicken Caesar burger.

so 15 euros for an a amazing meal for 2!

  4. “Empty your pockets”…haven’t been there since the period when I spent more time in the drinking establishments on Camden Street than was good for me: when the last of my night’s fund was usually spent on overpriced chips and onion rings.

It really is a rip off and none of my 20 something friends nor I can afford to eat there these days.

  5. €6.95 for a hot-dog? Nuff said

  6. They have hunger buster meal deals in a lot of the stores now, which means you get burger, fries & coke for 10.00, de-lish!

  7. I love the food in Eddie Rockets, but it is disgracefully expensive.

I agree about the prices for things like onion rings and also the chicken wings.

Although they were doing pints of Heineken for €2.00 at Christmas, and I was buckled on a tenner,so it’s swings and roundabounts !!!!

It’s good for the occasional, very occasional treat, because as they say,”Eddie Rockets, you need deep pockets “
