Review: Farmer Brown’s Market and Eatery

On Sunday I went for a festive lunch with some old work colleagues in Farmer Browns Market and Eatery in Ballsbridge. Classily, we were lured by the BYOB option (corkage €3 pp) but the food was fantastic.

It’s cutesy and shabby chic and you can eat there or get take out. I’d advise booking as it’s a converted house and space is tight. We booked but still had to sit out the front under an awning but there were heat lamps and blankets so it wasn’t bad at all. It showcases “the best of ingredients from Ireland’s best farmers and home growers”, and they basically put on the menu whatever they have collected in their rustic baskets. The friendly staff told us what was on offer and we each grabbed what we fancied.

To start, we shared some light and crispy chicken goujons with garlic dip (a less messy version of buffalo wings). Then I had a huge but tasty beef burger with sweet potato fries. There were also chicken burgers and the chef offered to rustle up a couscous burger for the token vegetarian. The club sandwiches looked particularly impressive. We got a selection of little cakes for dessert. They had run out of one type but they threw in another one for free. They’re such nice people and the food is so good that I hope it goes well.  It was also great value – €20 each covered the shared starters, mains, cakes, coffees, corkage, tip and one bottle of wine (we did bring some extra wine as well).

Check out their Facebook page for more details on their ever-changing menu.

  1. How much does it cost?

  2. While I agree that both the food and staff in Farmer Browns are excellent, I have one major problem with the place. When seated indoors during a busy dinner sitting you leave the place drowned in the scent of cooking. The lingering smell of burger grease on my clothes was enough to put me off going back. Some ventilation would not go amiss and it would also clear up the slippery condensation filled floors !!

  3. Hello,

Thank you for your honest feedback. Ventilation is something we are currently working on and trying our best to rectify. I hope that the next time you visit we will have this issue sorted and you will leave smelling of freshly baked scones 🙂
