Good vegetarian restaurants in Dublin?

Our reader Katia got in touch to ask for recommendations for good vegetarian restaurants in Dublin, that aren’t Indian. She has an Indian vegetarian friend visiting and doesn’t want to bring him only to Indian restaurants.  They’re looking for places that offer lots of flavours.

Where would you recommend?  Dublin is fairly badly served for vegetarian restaurants, considering how much choice there is in other areas.  Of the Lonely Planet top six vegetarian restaurants in Dublin, four are Govindas and one (Juice) is now closed.

Cornucopia is fine for a big hearty feed-up, but I’ve always felt they overprice slightly given the canteen style food (although their soup and salads are good value).

I’ve heard that The Farm on Dawson St does good veggie mains, and Rustic Stone has lots of vegetarian options.

Any other ideas?

  1. Govindas was going to be my first suggestion.

The Cedar Tree does some good vegetarian food, their falafel is mighty, and make sure to leave room for baklava. Their meaty dishes will keep other diners happy too.

Mostly I can think of Indian restaurants though, that’s mainly where I take my vegetarians.

  2. I think Brasserie Sixty6 has quite a good vegetarian menu… About four options for each course…

  3. I have a vegetarian friend that loves Acapulco on George Street, so I’d recommend having a look at their menu to see the options available…

  4. There are usually a few good veg options at Fallon & Byrne and most of the gourmet burger places have at least one veg burger option with the average closer to three (at least such was the case a couple years ago when I lived in Dublin!) The IFI restaurant used to have a good veg burger as well and there’s always the many, many burrito places. For a quick snack, the pasty shop in Temple Bar usually has some interesting options.

Honestly, anywhere with good food that isn’t aggressively meat-centric will usually have excellent veg options as well — often better than the choices in all but the best veg restaurants.

  5. Rustic Stone have the best veggie options around….my sister and I are both vegetarian and she is lactose intolerant and we can always choose from the menu without having to omit anything!!! Well worth trying there early bird and set menus are excellent value too!

  6. im vegetarian and eat out a lot. i love cornucopia but i agree, but steep in prices although portions are massive.

Darwin has a nice vegetarian menu, if they want something fancy even L’Ectrivain has a seperate veggie menu.

For cheap eat, yamamories. their veggie bento box is heaven.

Also, any of the lebanese places on camden/richmond street are delicious and full of vegetarian stuff!

  7. In terms of sandwiches Munchies have a very good selection of vegetarian foods and is acceptable for most omnivores.

  8. If you need fine dining Thornton’s does a veggie tasting menu. Carluccio’s on Dawson St. has loads of veggie options, too. The antipasti verdure is a favorite.

  9. Some suggestions from helpful types on Twitter: Yamamori, Ukiyo, IFI, Rotana and Jo’Burger. Darwin’s and Rustic Stone also got further recommendations. And finally, someone said that The Happy Pear is well worth the trip out to Greystones on the Dart.

  10. Guys, thanks you so much!
We’re going to Yamamori in the end!

  11. Keshk Cafe Restaurant, Ballsbridge is great, vegetarians get their own menu and the cuisine really lends itself to good veggie food – lots of aubergines and Falafel. And what is even better it is BYO and there is a great wine shop next door.
