The food critic Jay Rayner presents a Dispatches special tonight on budget food lines and examines the ingredients that go into them.
Rayner wrote on this topic in last weekend’s Observer, and mentioned some pretty unpleasant findings: beef pies that are only 18% beef, apple pies that are only 14% apple, the use of ‘connective tissues’ to pad out meat fillings.
Should be an interesting show; it’s on tonight at 8pm on Channel 4.

Does anyone know if this is on again, on More 4 for example? I missed it and forgot to record it and would be very interested to see it. It reminds me a bit of the program about the salt content of ready made sandwiches… scary!

I think you’ll need to download their 4OD thing but it’s straightforward enough.
