Maeve Higgins’ Fancy Vittles

Posted by: jean in: Food News

fancy-vittlesOne of my favourite comedians, Maeve Higgins, has a new show on RTE which combines cookery and standup comedy: Fancy Vittles.  Maeve and her sister Lilly prepare meals for guests, such as Those Girls We Went To School With (who’ll “probably just throw it up afterwards,” says Maeve).

The cookery is interspersed with some of Maeve’s very funny and idiosyncratic stand-up, sketches, archive footage and gorgeous animated sequences.  It’s a lovely quirky show, unlike anything I’ve ever seen on RTE before and is well worth a look.  It’s on Tuesday evenings at 10.30pm, and can also be watched on the RTE Player on Rte.ie.  Check out the poached salmon in Episode 2, it looks fantastic.

I haven’t seen this yet but I think Maeve is very funny. Went to see her stand up show once and Lilly sat quietly on the stage making gingerbread men the whole time. The audience was each allowed choose one to take home at the end.

Hmmm, I dunno. I quite liked the comedy elements of the first programme, but there isn’t really any cookery so (ahem) it doesn’t really do what it says on the tin.

Loved Maeve on Naked Camera. Watched the second programme but gave up half way through.

Love the show, it’s really different and refreshing, you can identify with the “conversation” thats what makes it so funny, would love to have Maeve as a dinner guest she cracks me up.

Who cares if there’s very little cooking on the show? That’s not really what it’s about. I watched this last night and was in stitches. It’s the funniest thing I’ve seen on RTE in years, and Maeve is absolutely hilarious – a natural wit and very down to earth. I love, love, LOVE this show.

i have just watched episode 1, in complete stitches throughout (first half particularly strong) – who cares if there’s no cooking – it’s a comedy show and it certainly delivers there. Some just don’t get her humour, and I feel sorry for them ;-)

OMG – Just happened upon this on RTE 2 last night – Episode 3. Absolutely hilarious but can see it wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea! She can deliver killer jokes/stories with a completely straight face! (I don’t think there was ever any intention of it being a serious cooking show though!!)
