Special Offers at Tesco

Posted by: peter in: Bargains & Special Offers

tescoirelandRepost: This week’s specials at Tesco are the same as last week’s…

Special buys at Tesco this week include:

  • Marques de Leon wines – €4 per bottle
  • Any 3 meats for €10
  • Tesco Finest – dinner for 2 for €11.50

Offers are valid until Tuesday February 2. Click here to see them all.

I suspect that Tesco’s wine promotions are a loss leader, and that perhaps they’re happy to take the hit as long as they lure us in. The Dinner for Two promotion is less alluring. Tesco Finest isn’t a particularly special ready meal; you’ll get a lot more in M&S for just an extra 50c.

Aren’t loss leaders illegal?

has anyone tried that Leon wine? – the duty and tax on a bottle of wine is almost €2.40, even if its a loss leader it must be total plonk. As a rule I’m very reluctant to go below €6 for a bottle of wine, and I’m no connoisseur.

I have tried it and its not bad, not a bottle you’d splash out for but i would say it worth about €6! thats for the white i havent tried the red and in my experience it easier to find an ok white then a red.

That Marques de Leon wine is normally only €5 a bottle anyhow so they are not losing that much on it by selling it at €4. Its tastes of nothing. I’ve drank a bottle or two (at the end of the pay month). It is not offensive to the palate, as in it doesn’t taste of vinegar. but its not great – maybe ok for cooking with.
