Pricewatch Tests Vegetable Stock

Irish TimesIn this week’s Pricewatch in The Irish Times, Conor Pope taste tests five different vegetable stock brands. Top marks go to Marigold Swiss Bouillon and Marks and Spencer Concentrated Vegetable Stock.

I’ll often make my own chicken stock.  But I’m never bothered to make my own vegetable stock: Marigold is just as good or even better. Any readers disagree, or have a handy home-made vegetable stock recipe to share?

  2. Hi SJ. You’ll get it in any health food shop.

  3. thanks peter … i shall have to get myself to one. i must also get to a halal shop to buy some of that feta you are raving about. i go on this site to save money and you have me buying new things :0)

  4. Ah yes, but a tub of Marigold is the best VALUE stock out there. It will last for months whereas a standard packet of 6 stock cubes will be gone in the blink of an eye 🙂

  5. I often make a chicken stock, with the best intentions to make risotto with it – only to leave it in the fridge for weeks and then throw it out.

Any idea on how long homemade stock will last in the fridge?

  6. Lar Veale, chicken stock will only last a couple of days. However, you can just freeze it in ice trays, then pop a cube or two when needed, that way it will last for ages

  7. Evergreen Wexford St sell it
