Special Buys at Lidl

lidl-meal-deal1. This week, Lidl are running an Irish breakfast meal deal: 6 (non free-range) eggs, black or white pudding, rashers and sausages for €4, a reduction of €2.08. I haven’t tried the rashers or pudding but I like Lidl’s Milton Gate sausages.

2. Current weekly food offers include:

  • Half price watermelons – now €1.99
  • Special Muesli Fruit/ Fruit and nut – 2 for €3
  • Premium quality toilet tissue – reduced from €5.49 to €3.49

Click here to see them all, remember there’s a new set every Monday.

3. Phew, I’m getting tired. Another Super Saturday includes Bally Manor Southern Fried Chicken Fillets (750g) reduced from €7.49 to €4.49, and half price Pepsi, now at 79c.

4. Finally, check out the current random specials here, and next Monday’s set here.

And speaking of Lidl…

I picked up the cheap W5 dishwasher tablets in Lidl; I think they were around €2.50, as opposed to over €8 for the Fairy tablets. “Sure, isn’t it all just salt?” an unknown voice from the past cried in my head.

Sadly, they’re a false economy. All the glasses went in needing nothing more than a rinse to get rid of lip marks, and they emerged caked in other pieces of dried food. I’ll stick with the more expensive option in future. Anyone ever found cheap dishwasher tablets that actually work?

  1. I don’t know about dishwasher tablets as I don’t have a dishwasher, but I always buy premium brand washing powder/gel and washing-up liquid. They last longer, work and smell better.

  2. Tesco own brand? Can’t remember now what they cost but it’s alot less than other brands and I found them ok. I don’t buy them anymore as even though we have a dishwasher I find it easier to do it by hand for just 2 of us.

  3. I’ve used Tesco own brand and they’re fine.

Never buy Finish or Fairy DW tablets at full price – they’re always on special offer (usually 100% extra free) somewhere or other – at full price they’re a ripoff.

  4. I’ve used the Lidl own brand dishwashing tablets and laundry tablets for the past year and I’ve never had any problems with them.

I was a devotee of Finish DW tablets and Ariel Laundry tablets until Mr Lenihan imposed the income levy, and I had to find savings everywhere. However I swear by Fairy dishwashing liquid, anything else is a waste of money

Try cleaning out your filter or adding rinse aid if the food particles are sticking to your dishes

  5. I use the Lidl ones too. They work fine in my dishwasher.

  6. I bought 100 tablets for 5.99 in Aldi last week, 2 boxes, no more for me now for years! Normally though I use the 3kg powder from either Tesco or Dunnes, much cheaper than the tablets. I do use a rinse aid, once again cheapie as glasses aren’t half as clean without and plastic cups and plates are dry if you use it. As for washing powder, I’m afraid I love Bold, that said I did try the Lidl Formil 2-1 (free one week) and it was fine, so once I’ve finished my massive Bold, I’ll give it a go for a while. My problem is the smell, can’t hack the smell of some ie the Aldi Almat stuff, smells greasy to me, mind you Persil isn’t good either unless if it can dry quickly!!

  7. I totally agree -the cheap dishwasher tablets are rubbish. I just bought Fairy 28s all in one in tesco on special offer this week. Its a pity as I can do most of my shopping in Lidl/Aldi but am forced back to Tesco or Dunnes for things like this (and bagels !).

  8. I have found that the cheap dishwasher tablets do not work. I usually look out for the well known brand names with 100% free. They are in Super Valu at the moment so I usually stock up and then it’s a bargain!

  9. http://www.lidl.ie/ie/home.nsf/pages/c.o.wfo.Index Fantastic offers here – most food items reduced to €1 or even less. Pots of basil, parslet and chives for only 79c – brilliant value and they tend to live for ages.
