Thanksgiving Dinner in Ireland

Thanksgiving! Yum yum yum yum yum.  A small minor detail like not living in America shouldn’t stop us from celebrating this holiday with piles of turkey and sweet potatoes this weekend.

Unfortunately, as ever, there doesn’t seem to be much on offer.  I found two restaurants in Dublin that are doing Thanksgiving dinner, but that is clearly not enough. If anyone has any tips for Thanksgiving Dinner anywhere in Ireland, please leave them in the comments box below and we’ll update the list.

  • Beaufield Mews in Stillorgan are doing a traditional four course Thanksgiving Dinner with complementary egg nog.
  • The Uisce Restaurant in the Hilton Hotel does a Thanksgiving Buffet over three nights, with live folk music and ‘authentic American touches’, whatever that means.  Their website doesn’t list a price, but it cost €29.50 last year so I imagine it’ll be in the same ballpark.  The Hilton is on Charlemont Place by the Grand Canal.

Special buys at Aldi

Besides jam? What’s the point? Okay, okay…

Special buys at Aldi include chocolate, gingerbread houses, chocolate, toys, chocolate, and sweets. Click here for details.

You’ll find details of the Super6 – a selection of fruit and vegetables for just 59c – here.

Why, oh why, won’t Aldi consider moving out to southeast Dublin? Nutgrove is just a little too far to travel.

Product review: Aldi jams

The first thing you need to know about me is that I love jam.  In the zombie apocalypse to come, it will be my reluctance to leave any jam behind that will be my fatal undoing.  So when Aldi sent Cheapeats a box of their new Grandessa Specially Selected jams to review a few weeks ago, Peter very naturally valued his life enough to make sure that the jams came to their rightful home – in my belly (and, sometimes, particularly after a night out and to my enormous shame, on my face).  It’s funny how things work out too, because Aldi stocks honey which purports to be from where I come from, Kilcrea, and features a drawing on the label of the ruined friary on my uncle’s farm.
