  • Mix and match any three selected fruit and veg for €4 (€2 each)
  • Half price poinsettias (€3.49)
  • Fox’s Fabulously Special Selection Tin (720g)

Top chef Kevin Dundon of Dunbrody House has created a range of simple recipes for SuperValu for its Best of Christmas promotion. The website currently features a recipe for Roast Crown of Chicken with Fricassee of Legs and Thighs – a great way of using up the full bird. And there’ll be plenty more recipes to come.

Most of the ingredients for this week’s recipe are basic staples or storecupboard items, such as flour, butter, sage, peppers, onions, and parsley. Look out in store as many of these recipes items will be on special over the next few weeks.

Donate €1 to Oxfam at Milano and get a free pizza

Milano, Oxfam and GoatsMilano are running a number of promotions at the moment to support Oxfam Ireland, and this one is particularly appealing: donate €1 to Oxfam in a Milano restaurant, and get a free main course (when you buy one other full priced main course).

This offer is valid every day from November 15th – December 5th.  Full details are available on the Milano website.

Full disclosure: I work for Oxfam Ireland and Milano have advertised with us here on CheapEats, but I do genuinely think that this is an excellent offer. If anyone is aware of any other good restaurant and charity partnerships, let us know and we’ll help to promote them too.

Milano’s UK partner PizzaExpress are also running a similar offer, details here for any readers based in the UK or  Northern Ireland.

Meals for the freezer

Tomatoes freeze well. Any other suggestions?

My beautiful new goddaughter Abbie is, unsurprisingly, a time-consuming little critter. I hit the shops to buy the kiddo a little present, but then I remembered some wise words from Jean: new parents don’t get time to eat.

These tiny people, cute as they are, demand a lot of attention. When my sister had her first baby, I used to pop around for a few minutes so she could have a chance to shower. Cooking a dinner was both daunting and impossible.

I decided that Abbie would have plenty of clothes. What was really needed was some nosh for her folks. So I set about making mountains of food that they could jam into the freezer.

The containers – the silver foil trays you used to get from Chinese takeaways – are pricey enough: €2.79 for a packet of Glad foil trays with lids. If you’re planning on filling up the fridge, you do need decent containers and you need to be able to label them, otherwise you’ll forget what’s what. If anybody can suggest a cheaper alternative, please let me know.
