I have mixed feelings about these special buys at Lidl and Aldi. I’m lured to these shops by their low prices, but I’ve only once gone especially to avail of the offers. That time, I bought a dinghy in Lidl for €599.99 and it was a great investment. A few weeks ago, however, I bought a head shaver/ beard trimmer for €9.99. It was a total waste of money: the trimmer didn’t work and caused enormous pain: I vowed never to waste my money on such cheap items again.

I bought a TARGA laptop about 2 years ago at Lidl, and I’m very happy with it. I also bought a coffee table at Aldi, and a few special buys that I don’t regret buying. There are things that I liked on the paper but looked too cheap once I saw them and simply didn’t buy. The one mistake I made was with a pack of 8 baby vests. They were…. square! Wider than longer, so the baby only wore one once and I recycled them as cleaning rags

if you buy something from LIDL or ALDI and it doesn’t work properly bring it back. there returns policy/service is excellent. it outstrips any other irish retailer i can think of. earlier on this year returned a deep fryer after about 2 years use, got a cheque in the post few days later. 3 year warranty is excellent esp. on electronic items.
