  1. I love supervalu. The ranges they stock are great value, and their own supreme range is always very tasty, especially the soups. For me, its a middle man between M&S and Dunnes.

  2. I find Supervalu varies hugely between stores. For instance, the one in Churchtown is immaculate, really well stocked, they have quite a lot of specialty items, great friendly staff and the food is always really fresh & they have a great fish monger too – really can’t say enough about it….but by contrast, the Supervalu on Aston Quay is atrocious!! Badly stocked, dirty, poorly laid out, lots of gone off produce on the shelves and a very poor range (except for specialty beers oddly enough!! Loving Innis & Gunn at the moment!!)

Now there’s an idea – could we start a discussion on specialty beers – has anyone tried Innis & Gunn? It’s like nothing you’ve ever tasted, truly delicious, tastes like honey & what ever the barrels they use for it have previously been used for. It is a bit pricey but a real treat to savour. It comes in large & small bottles. http://www.innisandgunn.com “Using oak to age beer is unheard of. But, the flavours imparted by the oak barrels (previously used to mature bourbon) lend an incredible depth of taste. Think vanilla, toffee and orange aromas, with a malty, lightly oaked palate; soothing and warm in the finish.” They have a new rum cask oak aged beer – I haven’t been able to find it yet. Has anyone tried it/know where to get it??

  3. Was in Supervalu Greystones on Saturday. While their range looks nice, I couldn’t help but notice that most branded items were way dearer than in other supermarkets (mostly Tesco and Dunnes)

  5. Nanazolie is completely right. The special offers are very good value, usually – but you need to be careful about picking up anything outside of them – as you may be in for a shock if you don’t examine the price! That said, I must repeat that their special offers generally sell at very acceptable prices.

  6. I agree with the above. My experience with SuperValu is mixed. My local store in Killester is terrible. The staff don’t appear to have received any customer service training – they are borderline surly and don’t appear to have been given any initiative to help customers. Items are often out of stock and I’ve had to take items back twice this year so far because they had gone of. In contrast the SuperValu in Monaghan, where my parents live, is wonderful. The staff are attentive and have mastered the basics of “Hello” and “Thank You”. The shelves are well stocked and the produce is fresh.
