Review: La Dolce Vita, Sandyford

kids-eat-free1There’s not enough decent neighbourhood restaurants around Dublin, but every now and then I stumble across a gem.

My sister Barbara has been raving about La Dolce Vita in Sandyford, south Co. Dublin. I went there a few weeks ago to try it out and was very impressed with this sweet little trattoria.

We both opted for the early bird menu: two courses from an extensive selection for just €17.95. My Caesar salad starter was delicious: perfectly crisp and fresh iceberg with crunchy croutons and tasty succulent chicken with quality bacon. It lacked only the anchovy kick, but that’s forgivable. Their lasagna is one of the best I’ve had in an Italian, packed as it should be with all sauciness and meat, and well presented to boot. My partner in dine had a remarkably good pizza, with a thin crispy base and quality toppings.

There’s also a great deal on Saturdays and Sundays for hard-pressed parents: kids eat free.

This is a busy, buzzy little joint, set to move across the road to a larger premises to accommodate demand. Hopefully the new premises will retain the great atmosphere of the old. Get there before it’s too late!
