Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in the Westin

westin-afternoon-tea-001My dear friend Alice-Mary, who has an unequalled nose for interesting little events, found a great deal in the Westin Hotel in Dublin. Until the end of April, they are running a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in their Atrium restaurant/bar area. For €20 for two people, you get a gorgeous afternoon tea.  Six and a half of us went there yesterday to celebrate our friend Clairey’s birthday, and got three cake stands filled with the most incredibly tempting cakes and treats – pink macaroons, scones, cupcakes, miniature cupcakes, delicious potted chocolate mousse and candied fruits (which we thought were yellow cherries but which the menu said were ‘baby apples’).

westin-afternoon-tea-002A coffee or tea is included in the price, and the Westin has some very elaborate herbal teas indeed. Our friend Ken got a teapot containing a bunch of exotic tea that looked like a sea anenome, and I had an excellent iced coffee.  All delicious and a feast for the eyes.  Whoever thought of spreading caramel on a scone is an evil genius.

Considering that a standard slice of cake with a decent coffee will usually set you back at least €6 or €7 in most Irish restaurants and cafes, it’s definitely worth splurging the extra €3-€4 per head and treating yourself to this afternoon tea.   There’s only three days left to avail of the offer, and it’s served until 6pm each day.

The Westin is on Westmoreland Street, near Trinity College and O’Connell Bridge.
