I have just been alerted to an offer being run by The Irish Times – their restaurant critic Tom Doorley has asked six of his favourite Dublin restaurants to participate in the offer. For €20, you will get a starter, main course and a glass of wine in the following restaurants:

  • China Sichuan
  • Town Bar & Grill
  • The Cellar
  • L’Ecrivain
  • Chapter One
  • Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill

The offer runs from Mon 26th – Thurs 29th January, and Mon 2nd – Thurs 5th February.  You need to book in advance and quote the Irish Times offer while making your booking, and the restaurants will encourage you to make a donation to Our Lady’s Hospice.

Download a printable pdf with full details of the offer here.

Swanky Lunch for €20 with The Irish Times. Dickheads. Swanky Lunch for €20 fo people who live in Dublin, south of the river. Just call yourselves the D4 parish newsletter and lets not pretend you are a national paper.

Donal, we’re just noting offers as we see them here. If the Irish Times run a similar offer with non-South Dublin restaurants, we’ll post about that too.

A friend of mine once saw a piece on a food shop or something in the Irish Times magazine that opened with ‘Get yourselves to the Northside!’.

Would love to hear of anyones experiences of taking advantage of this offer?

I’d love to know if, or how far down, the staff in these restaurants look down their noses at people bringing their Irish Times looking for a cheap dinner.

I’m just back from a wonderful lunch at Bentley’s on this offer. It was really delicious and such a nice treat for a snowy February Monday.

I had a lovely chicken liver parfait for starters and a hake dish with chorizo for main. The other choices were white onion soup and beef bourguignon. The chocolate mousse looked so lovely that I ended up getting that as well.

They were very accommodating to our needs, we had a vegetarian and someone who is lactose intolerant. One of the girls in our party had also done this offer in L’Ecrivain and said that Bentleys was way better and far more substantial.

Now I’m just going to snooze at my desk for the afternoon.

Zzzzzzzz
