The World’s Best (Fancy) Restaurants

Posted by: peter in: Restaurants | Travel

san-pellegrino-guide-coverThe French Laundry features on the recently published San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants. El Bulli in Spain is ranked at number one, with Hestor Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck at number two. The list is a good guide if you fancy a once-in-a-lifetime treat while on holidays or, indeed, if you’re looking for an unusual wedding present for a couple heading on honeymoon.

Back in the good old pre-recession days, I had a fantastic meal at The Witchery in Edinburgh, while The Strawberry Tree in Co. Wicklow is the best fancy restaurant I’ve been to (so far!) in Ireland.

What fancy restaurants have taken your fancy – either in Ireland or abroad?

I have to say that in Dublin I cannot find a restaurant that ticks all the boxes as much as Pearl Brasserie..

Eating out with a head chef can be such a headache & have to say he is exceptionally quiet everytime we are in Pearl.

Stunning food ( expecially the Fois Gras with Strawberries ) , stunning presentation & great staff who have a passion for food & wine which is not often found these days….

Why cant so many more restaurants get it right….

My wife keeps talking about the most amazing times she’s had in Ireland eating at the best places. This just makes me want to visit.

  • Sinead: If you're anti-Nestle and into saving a few quid, there's a new Irish site selling Nespresso compatible pods for around 15% less. I've tried them and
  • SJ: I second the "Just off Francis" recommendation. Lovely little place!
