The good folk at Centra sent me a box of cakes to sample a few weeks ago. More specifically, a box of Bronkies. You’ll be unsurprised to learn that this is a cross between a cookie and a brownie. Apparently it’s “the latest craze in America”.

Freshly baked cakes are a rarity in the local convenience store, but I think Centra’s really stepped up to the plate here. These were delicious. The bronkie comes in four flavours: chunky chocolate, double chocolate, white chocolate and macadamia. Each cost a very reasonable €1.15.

Also in the box were Yum-Yum doughnuts (rectangular doughnuts) at €1.15 and the Mini Loaf (€1.30), a version of the pound cake. Eat it yourself or split one with a friend/ colleague over coffee.

Centra are kindly donating five €25 vouchers, so our winning readers can try the cakes for themselves, pick up a tea or coffee, and still have plenty of money to pick up some lunches, dinners, and other groceries. There’s over 468 Centra shops in Ireland so all winners will have plenty of opportunities to spend their voucher.

I reckon Centra are the best of the convenience stores and they always have some decent offers on. I particularly like the Centra Farmhouse Vegetable soup, and Centra has over 700 own range products.
