Where to go for a short break?

Posted by: peter in: Bargains & Special Offers | Queries | Travel

special-offers-brochure-sept09Payday, oh payday. So I’ve finally got that tyrannical bank manager off my back and it’s time for a well-deserved break. I know that Discover Ireland have some incredibly good deals, which you’ll find here (it’s a large file, beware!), but I’m torn, so I turn to you guys for advice.

Both Delphi Mountain Resort in Leenane, Co. Galway, and Carlow’s Mount Wolseley Hotel, Spa, and Country Club are both offering two B&B and one dinner for €149. The five-star Sheraton Fota Island in Cork would stretch my budget a bit more: one B&B and dinner for €134.

I’m also considering very consistently excellent places: the Brooklodge in Wicklow and Temple Spa in Westmeath. Both are very reliable; unlike many hotels, you’re guaranteed an outstanding meal here. Readers, have you tried any of these places? Any suggestions welcome!

We stayed in Mount Wolseley for a wedding. From reading some reviews on another site I thought it was going to be very hit and miss but it was fabulous. The food was amazing even though they were catering for a huge crowd and everybody got seconds of everything, even meat! Based on that we’ve said that we’ll go back if we get the chance. However we didn’t try out the leisure facilities and I’m not sure how much there is to do in the area so if I were you I’d go with the Sheraton :)

irecently treated myself to a weekend in the Sheraton and I wont be returning or recommending it. Rooms were nothing special, food was dismal, overpirced with bad service.

I do love Brooklodge, which has it all – great organic food, lovely rooms and the spa.

I get to stay in lots of hotels & have been to most of these.. Brook Lodge would get my vote. Previous negative experiences include Mt Wolesley & Fota. My pick – Delphi.. lovely!

I love Renvyle House if youre flexible and can go midweek, otherwise, Delphi. Theres something a bit “theme park” about Brooklodge.
