To celebrate the launch of our new CheapEats Classifieds service, we’re giving away two €50 vouchers for Marks and Spencer: enough for a week of delicious goodies, little luxuries and some meats from their new Grill range.
To win one of these vouchers, we’re asking you to have a look at our new CheapEats Classifieds site and simply leave a comment on this post, letting us know what you think of it. There’s no right or wrong answers; we’re looking for your honest feedback.
Do you think CheapEats Classifieds is useful? How can we improve it for you? And what type of deals do you want to see from hotels, restaurants, and/or takeaways?
As usual, we’ll pick the winner at random. Thanks to M&S for sponsoring this post.
About CheapEats Classifieds
CheapEats Classifieds is the new, definitive, one-stop-shop for finding excellent value in hotels and restaurants.
On our new sister site, you’ll find a wide range of special offers, including early bird offers, meals under €20, meals under €30, meals under €40, overnight deals, freebies and more.
CheapEats Classifieds: Easy to Use
We’ve aimed to make CheapEats Classifieds really user-friendly: all ads are categorised by offer type, cuisine, location, and price, so you can easily find offers that appeal to you and fit your budget.
We hope this will be a really useful service for our readers and for struggling restaurants, and we’d love to hear reader feedback on this post. Happy eating!
Value for Restaurants, Value for You
All the offers are paid ads. As an added incentive for restaurants and hotels to offer great value, we’re charging only the price of their offer to advertise for a week. So if it’s a two course meal for €15, it costs them just €15 to advertise for a week; if it’s an overnight deal with dinner for €80, it will cost them just €80. The better value they offer you, the better value they’ll get from us!

Try the Peppered Steak Burgers (€5.49) or the Rump Steak Burgers (€6.99) for a true meat feast. Add a toasted ciabatta bun and serve with fries for the ultimate barbeque treat. I think the new classifieds site is a great idea and I have already this morning taken to a look to see where I can head some night this week …. !
Its all about value for money now … there’s a recession you know 🙂

Thanks Marta, it’s fixed now, and you’re entered into this competition. My own post, here, will not count as an entry!

I think classifieds is a great idea. I love checking out for good value dining experiences so it’s good to have it there with everything else cheapeats provides!
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 11:35 am
The site is great – saves us having to trawl the internet looking for those offers and as Cheapeats is so popular now, all the restaurants should be looking to get onto it!
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 11:36 am
Great idea but perhaps the offers should appear in date order so that i can click in every few days and only bother with the new offers rather than ones i’ve already seen? Thanks
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 11:37 am
yes, definitely a good idea to be able to see all the current deals in the one place. Will it be updated to make sure that deals haven’t expired?
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 11:41 am
Looks good!
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 11:42 am
Really great idea – well done guys and thankyou.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 11:44 am
Really handy site of the latest offers.
Maybe have a map-based function to see where the offers are. When I’m meeting friends we pick a general area first and then look at the offers.
I like BOGOF deals, and decent early-bird specials.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 11:47 am
Love it!
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 11:55 am
The classifieds are a really good idea. The advertisers and us, the public, are getting a good deal. God bless you cheapeats.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 12:01 pm
Good idea, handy to check for ideas and offers for eating out but adding a location category (county + district/town/post code in Dublin) to all classifieds would be a major improvement, if you are in Cork offers in Galway aren’t much use…
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 12:04 pm
Great idea, I’ll definitely be checking out the classifieds before choosing somewhere to eat in future.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 12:09 pm
A great way of quickly scanning the latest deals!
I can’t stand it when takeaways etc charge you extra for a portion of rice. RICE. It is the cheapest food in the world.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 12:14 pm
ooo YUM YUM, lots of lovely treats there for a sunny Monday evening!
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 12:14 pm
I think it’s great to have all the offers in town at hand on one single webpage. Well done!
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 12:23 pm
It’s a really handy collation, for sure. The biggest thing I’d like to see on there would be an option to classify by area as well as date.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 12:28 pm
Great idea and site. Something handy might be a google map in the post itself? Or even just a link to the location on google maps.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 12:43 pm
It looks great. Very useful. Thanks.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 12:43 pm
i love it and your site in general. there’s nobody else doing anything like this.
I’d second the addition of maps. otherwise it’s perfect.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 1:04 pm
A good idea about sorting by price range. Sometimes you want something cheap, quick and good, sometimes something a bit fancier
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 1:05 pm
Good idea! I have used it already.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 1:09 pm
I like it, I know you changed the background image and the top logo but i would also change the main color.
Great idea thou.

I can imagine when more things are listed it might get difficult to find what you want – have the categories sub-divided into location e.g. Dublin city centre and also have a list of restaurants that can be searched according to friendliness to vegans and vegetarians – (having one or no choice does not count as friendly).
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 1:41 pm
i think its great to give you a heads up on offers – say we fancied dinner on the spur of the moment, its definitely worth a look to see where the offers are on. i think it’d be good to see some lunchtime offers around ifsc or city centre please!
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 1:42 pm
Nice idea. How about including links from the ads to any relevant reviews or posts on the main cheapeats.ie site? Also, maybe allow user comments below ads so they can share their experiences with fellow diners.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 1:50 pm
I like the layout. The colours are good – each topic really stands out in the light blue text. Good that dates are clearly displayed. Listing categories is a good way for people to search quickly. Tag cloud also useful. The website seems fast with no glitches.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 1:51 pm
I think it’s a wonderful service, I second the thoughts of a previous poster who suggested breaking it down by county/area. You could also offer breakdown by food type – Indian, Chinese etc
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 2:09 pm
It’s a great idea and will certainly be a point of reference for me when looking for bargains
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 2:24 pm
It’s a good idea, but a few things. 1. It’d be useful if there telephone number/email of the establishment was on the page with the offer so you could book there and then. 2. It’d be even better if there was a google map of the location of the restaraunt. 3. Maybe this is taking it too far, but a sample menu would be great as some places have offers but the menu is very limited (and as a veggie i’d like to see if i could eat anything. Other than that, i’ll definitely keep an eye on it for offers.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 2:35 pm
Very good idea. The one suggestion I’d make is to add a filter so people can just look at the offers in their own area(as others have suggested too).
For example, most of the offers are in Dublin so if I could filter those out, it would be a lot easier for me to use. The reverse is true for people in Dublin.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 2:57 pm
I think its a good idea
Waht would be a good idea would be to have the menus online or a klink to them so you know what you are getting , the restautants should supply these.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 3:13 pm
Linking the offering restaurant to restaurant reviews would also be good.
remember the quote from the book “the millionaire next door” – something like this….
“it is not what you earn, it is what you DONT spend”
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 3:13 pm
Your classified section is amazing. Loads of great offers and infos on all the latest deals.
Keep it up!
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 3:25 pm
Great Stuff…very useful a one stop shop for recession busting shopping
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 3:27 pm
Great idea, I love going out to eat, and this way I can check and make sure I have the best value going.
Also, It will enable me to check out undiscovered restaurants that may/may not be added to my favourites list.
If there could be a comments section on each classified, so we can let each other know what we thought of it – or a ratings system? that would be great.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 3:30 pm
Good idea – as more advertisements are posted it will be frustrating to scroll through, can you include a search facility – location, menu, child friendly?
If it is real time, perhaps restaurants could post last minute offerings if they have no/low bookings that evening?
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 3:38 pm
I like the idea, but I don’t think the ‘blog’ linear format suits it so well.
Specific comments are :
(1) I assume only current offers will be shown, so out-of-date ones will be removed as they expire.
(2) You relaly need a way of searching by location as well as by type of offer in the categories.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 3:59 pm
Each restaurant making an offer should be obliged to give a minimum amount of information so that it is possible to immediately identify the establishment.
Specifically, there is an early bird ad for McHughs posted on the 6th of May tagged with Dublin North but I’ve no idea where that is.
Should include URL (where available) and phone number always.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 4:04 pm
A great idea…but maybe a section for comments by people who have been there would be habndy
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Great idea, I also agree that the posts could be classified by area, or at least make clear in the first line or title where the restaurants are.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 4:54 pm
Any links to relevant reviews would be nice.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 5:01 pm
Yes, they’re useful! I particularly like the categories so you can see offers relevant to your liking.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 5:18 pm
I discovered this site just after Christmas, and now check it several times a day. It’s great and so is the “classified” idea. I’d agree with the many comments which suggested the possibility of checking by location – as a rural dweller, I found that there are a lot of Dublin-based entries to trawl through!
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 6:21 pm
i like it. one feature i would like to see is adds sorted by date. it would be good to be able to go on once a week and see what new offers there are this week.
also i like the way the adds expire, as in your not looking at a pile of adds that are no longer available
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 6:59 pm
Love the wallpaper on it.
Will the cuisine types/locations only be in the tagcloud or will they be expanded to categories in their own rights?
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 7:07 pm
I think Cheap eats could be improved by making the competitions less demanding of user input!
I wish to have the chance of winning stuff with minimum effort!
Srsly tho, good site.
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 7:09 pm
Definitely a great idea to quickly look at all offers in one go. Love the site – well done!
Monday 11 May, 2009 at 7:33 pm
I think its awesome for checking up if the M & S meal deals are in without having to go into town, same goes for the aldi specials etc. Deals I’d like to see are more around the country not just Dublin, a site with deals listed like an Irish version of Uk’s toptable would be so amazing.
