Convenience Store Offers

Londis: Close to Your Pocket

Those big, shiny, branded convenience stores are miserably forgettable. Identikit, reliable selection of nothing very much, and usually vastly less interesting than independent shops. I’ve never understood why they advertise: nobody goes to any particular convenience store because they want to, they go because they have to. And they go to that one because it’s the nearest one.

logoHowever, seems we’re stuck with them, so may as well go to the best for offers. Some of these offers comes from the manufacturer themselves, such as “50% extra free mayonnaise”; be aware that you’ll find these offers in every shop.

But the best for offers, at least, seems to be Centra. Here’s some of their current specials, running until Saturday July 4

  • Cadbury’s Treat Timeout – half price – was €3.34, now €1.67
  • Kilmeaden Red/ White Cheddar Cheese Block (230g) – half price – was €3.25, now €1.62
  • Centra Easy Peeler (750g) Punnet – was €2.99, now €2

There’s nothing special about Spar‘s measly selection, which includes such so-called specials as:

  • “Bavaria Fresh Choice Mushrooms (250g), Spring Cabbage and White Potatoes (2.5kg) – all 3 for €5
  • Fresh Choice Cherry Tomatoes (250g), Scallions, and Cucumber – “only 79c each

Some better specials at Spar include:

  • Cadbury Chocolate Fingers (150g) – only €1
  • Fresh Choice Tri Pk Fruit (Apple/ Kiwi/ Clementine) – only €1

Lastly, specials at the Londis website are from a few weeks ago and have now expired. If they have new specials, they haven’t updated their site. Maybe you’ll find some in-store?
