My €25 burger

Posted by: peter in: Restaurants | Reviews

Just because it’s got a cocktail stick in it, does not make it a gourmet burger. Nor does its impossibly large size: too big to eat without a car jack holding your mouth open. So what turns an ordinary burger into a “gourmet” burger? For a start, the cow should have been massaged on a [...]

Here’s a good offer: buy any high rise burger or main course salad at Gourmet Burger Kitchen and get any bottle of beer, glass of house wine, or milkshake on the house. The only catch is that you have to give GBK your email address; they’ll send maybe one email a month with details of [...]

Lunch in Jo’Burger

Posted by: jean in: Restaurants | Reviews

Anyone who says the words ‘I’m not going to get drunk tonight’ AT THE SAME TIME as drinking a series of large martinis (ingredients: neat vodka!) is clearly a genius.  And when a genius has a raging hangover, they deserve to be brought somewhere good for a curative lunch. This was the state that our [...]

Review: Rick’s burgers

Posted by: peter in: Restaurants | Reviews

Do I look fat in this blog? All week it’s been burgers this, sweets that, fish and chips the other. But my gluttony has been strictly rationed, with each week receiving its fair share, so just in case all those trolls out there think there’s lots of meat on me – there isn’t. The junk [...]

Bobo’s: Fourth time lucky?

Posted by: peter in: Bad Value | Restaurants | Reviews

This week, I’m continuing my hunt for Dublin’s best burger. A few weeks ago, I decided to give Bobo’s on Wexford Street yet another chance. I think of Bobo’s as the errant, prison-bound little brother I never had. Oh, he’s a bad ‘un, they tell me, but I really want him to succeed. I know [...]

Now I’ve had a good old bleat about Gourmet Burger Kitchen, allow me to draw your attention to their eye-poppingly amazing, totally incredible, yes-no-need-to-blink-it’s-true offer: buy any two burgers or salads and receive the one of lesser value for free. FREE. Yes. Free. It’s one of the best offers I’ve seen for ages. It’s valid [...]

Gourmet burgers. Already, before I finish this sentence, one of two things is happening: 1. You’re suddenly feeling hungry, and juicy, or 2. You’re discovering that you have something called hackles, watching with a sense of distant horror as they rise, spluttering at the indecency of something so prosaic as a burger – a burger! [...]

If you’re down in Dun Laoghaire (my new favourite haunt) this weekend, check out the excellent value BBQ at the 40 Foot. For €5, you can get a beef burger, chicken fillet burger, or a jumbo sausage. Add in an extra €3 and you can fill your plate with three salads too. The burgers were [...]

A few months ago, Jean lamented the demise of Gourmet Burger Kitchen’s €5 burger offer. Now it’s back! Pick up a burger in one of GBK’s six Irish branches, Monday to Friday from 2-5pm, for just €5. Perfect for a late lunch. The offer is valid until June 30.
